Review: Re: Monarch

Title: Monarch: A Prince Out of Time: A Progression Fantasy Epic (RE: Monarch Book 1)

Author:  J. McCoy, Eligos

Rating: 2/5

Comments:  I had to really think about why I didn't like this story.  It has a reasonably interesting premise, it has a flawed protagonist who grows, and good side characters.  All of those *should* make it a great story.  But it didn't, at least not for me.  Mal on my Discord loves it.  I have decided that it comes back to agency and stakes.  The protagonist is at the whim of this time loop curse and just when you think he may accomplish something, he gets gacked and sent back to some random point.  So he has limited agency, and a I figure it's only a matter of time until he starts resetting himself like Tom Cruise did in Edge of Tomorrow.

Review: System Universe Book 5

Title: System Interference: A LitRPG Adventure (System Universe Book 5)

Author: SunriseCV

Rating:4.25/5

Comments:  I wasn't sure when I started this series if I would really like it because of the whole "System Apocalypse" bullshit, but it took a hard right during the prologue and I became interested.  Derek is not your typical protagonist, having far more power than he should, but his character developing in spite of his power.  It's that development, and his friends that make the series interesting.

Review: Manor Lord 1

Title: Rise of a Manor Lord: A Progression Fantasy Isekai

Author: T.E. Bakutis

Rating: 3/5

Comments: This story was just ok.  It has some good characters, but I didn't really get to the point where I identified with the protagonist.  The world has some very strange characteristics which abuse the phrase "implausible".  Some people on my Discord really like it, but they really like it because of the side characters, which I get.

Review: Mark of the Fool 6

Title: Mark of the Fool 6: A Progression Fantasy Epic

Author: J.M. Clarke

Rating: 4.5/5

Comments: I like these books.  I think it's mostly because the characters have some depth, and realistic motivations.  In this installment a lot of the swords hanging over the protagonist fall, but the results of their fall is not what you would expect.  I am looking forward to book 7.
