Review: Super Sales on Super Heroes 4

Author: William D. Arand

Rating: 4.25/5

Comments:  This is the long awaited, and much anticipated next installment in the much beloved SSoSH series.  Much like Aether, there is the problem of how do you make an interesting story if the protagonist can just nuke a gnat from orbit.  In this case the answer is to start over.  I won't spoil anything more, but if you're a fan of Felix and the gang, you should pick it  up.

Review: Mages of Buldoun

Title: Mages of Buldoun  (Aether's Revival Book 5)

Author:  Daniel Schinhofen

Rating: 5/5

Comments:  I really liked this installment of Aether's Revival. A common problem in long running series where the protagonist has multiple wives, and special friends is any problem can be solved by simply throwing bodies at it until it is gone.  Most efforts to alleviate this issue are of limited effectiveness or they feel contrived.  Schinhofen managed to solve the problem in this book quite effectively and have it blend into the narrative so seamlessly that you don't even really know if that was the plan, or just how it happened organically.

Beyond that the story branched out a good bit from what we've been doing the last 4 books and it was a lot of fun.  Looking forward to the next book.

Author: Thomas Doscher

Rating: 5/5+

Comments: This series just keeps getting better.  I don't even mind the POV jumps because he works them into the story so well.  What's impressive is that he has managed to start to alleviate the language barrier but yet the cultural differences are now becoming more apparent.  It's a really fascinating world that is being revealed as the story progresses  To top it off the ending of this one had some really powerful emotional impact.

Author:  G.S. D'Moore

Rating:3.5/5

Comments: I honestly don't remember anything about this book other than I read it, and how it ended.  So I'm giving it the "It didn't suck" rating; because I would remember if it had.  I have vague memories of a lot of futzing about in the first half and a lot of sex, which is probably why I don't remember it better.  So hey if you want a lot of on screen sexy times, might be right up your alley.

Comments:  I could almost Cut/Paste the Challenger's Call 8 review for this one.  This is book 5 of god knows how many, but things are still progressing, so it is still entertaining.  Jason continues to be the same force of chaos that he's always been, but it's more a facade now that he uses as needed while the real person beneath has grown considerably.

I wish they'd come out with them more regularly since I know they're up to something like book 10 on Royal Road, but I can deal with this pace.

Rating:

Comments:  I'm not going to even bother with a rating, we're 8 books in and it's still good.  Can't think of anything that really surprised me but there was nothing that disappointed me either.  Solid sequel, which I think if you made it this far you will be happy with.  If you dropped the series earlier I don't see anything here that would make you change your mind.

Review: Come and Take It

Title: Come and Take It: The Eden Chronicles - Book Two

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MHBRMNR/

Author: S.M. Anderson

Rating: 4.5/5

Comments:  This is a direct follow on from where the story ends in book 1, but it didn't quite work the way I expected.  I thought the settlers would be done with the Old World, but there are still story threads from that world in the story, so I guess we'll be going back at some point or some such.  The main foci of the story are the political machinations of the settlers and the issue of the alien invaders.

It was a better read than the first book, and came to a very satisfying end.  Possibly too satisfying because I have not been particularly motivated to pick up book 3 and see what happens next.  Really all the same commentary about the first one applies to the second one.  Some people will really like it, and some really won't.

Author: Xander Boyce

Rating:3.8/5

Comments:  This is sort of a system apocalypse book, and generally I hate them but this one isn't complete shit.  Unlike most the explanation of what happened isn't terrible so that was good.  It was recommended to me because it has a unique power system, and it is kind of cool.  As a reader I do wonder how the author is going to cope with the insane power curve the protagonist is on.  I read all 3, so that's actually fairly impressive.  I don't know if I will pick up book 4, I don't feel any particular compulsion to find out what happens next, but if it comes up and I am not busy with something else I'd read it.

A Bright Shore

Title: A Bright Shore: The Eden Chronicles-Book One

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B2DN68K/

Author: S.M Anderson

Rating: 4.3/5

Comments:  This is one of those stories of a dystopian culture where a small number of people escape to a new frontier.  I quite enjoyed it, but leftists will find it somewhere between tiresome and offensive with a possibility of triggering.

Fair amount of POV switching which is moderately annoying for me.

Comments:  Picked this book up on a lark but it was pretty entertaining. This is not an epic tale of world-saving, but that doesn't matter because the characters make the story.

I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for something light and easy to read.
