Author Interview: Cebelius

Cebelius was interviewed by Tess Irondale, and I can't say I'm very familiar with Tess but she does a great job with the interview, and Cebelius provides insightful and thoughtful answers.  I don't usually go for hour long listens, but it went by really fast.

Review: Rose

Title: Rose (Would You Love a Monster Girl? Book 5)

Author: Cebelius

Rating: 4/5

Comments:  I'm trying be objective with this book.  It's just as good as the others, but it was not matching my mood so I struggled to get into the groove with it.  The over-arching story arc is still shaping up and the world is being delivered in manageable bits.  It is definitely an interesting world.  If you're in the mood for monster girls in love, it's going to be a 5/5.

Review: Sex, Death, and Money: Season 1

Title: Sex, Death, and Money: Season 1

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C6TS8SLM/

Author: Cebelius

Rating:3.9/5

Comments:  Cebelius got his start in haremlit, but the market conditions have forced him to move beyond those bounds, but much like The Godfather, he got pulled back in.  He apparently started this on his Patreon, as a lark, and it snowballed from there.

This is an homage to Chad in Vaginaland, but unlike the vast majority of Chad books, there's an actual story here.  A dark story, but a story.  Not Mountain King Saga dark, not even by half, but this a long ways off the somewhat lighthearted and fun fiction of TAP.

I like Cebelius' stories and my lack of interest in reading the sequel to SDM1 is primarily because of the amount of sex in it.  It's not erotica, but it's close, and my tastes have shifted from sex being a positive in a story to neutral, and there's a lot of sex in this.

Review: Selena

Title: Selena (Would You Love a Monster Girl? Book 4)

Amazon.com: Selena (Would You Love a Monster Girl? Book 4) eBook : -, Cebelius: Kindle Store

Author: Cebelius

Rating: 4/5

Comments: Cebelius got his start with the Celestine Chronicles and he has lots of experience writing plausible human/non-human romance.  I think this book sets a new standard for making a character who deviates from human yet somehow achieves the goal of relatability.  He shows a lot more of the world of the WYLAMG universe in this book and it is pretty interesting.

The sex parts of this book don't really fall in my strike zone, but the story is very strong.  If the sex parts do fall in your strike zone this is going to be a 5/5

Review: Grace

Title: Grace: Would You Love a Monster Girl?

Author: Cebelius

Rating:  4/5

Comments:  I generally like Cebelius' books.  He writes good characters and engaging storylines.  This book was a bit of a departure for him as it's mostly just a slice of life book that follows the protagonists through their dance of becoming involved with each other.  It was good, but the others had more going on with the meta arc and it gave them a little more punch.

Title: Tayra: Would You Love a Monster Girl?

Author: Cebelius

Rating: 4.5/5

Comments:

These books are essentially romance novels, but with one non-human protagonist.  Now generally speaking, I don't read books for romance.  These though are well done, and the characters are relatable.  What really differentiates these books for me, and brings them up above a four is the way Ceb is building the world.  There's no wall of text exposition where he goes on for pages explaining how the world works and all that.  No, he sticks in a detail here, a detail there, and a discussion between characters over here, and slowly builds a picture of a world that has some heft to it.  I knocked off a half a point for gratuitous POV shifting, which I swear he put in just to tweak me.  Worth the read even if you don't do "romance" as a genre.

Comments:

This is a romance novel hidden inside a gritty cop novel.  The romance bit isn't my usual fare, but I don't mind stepping outside my usual reading habits to try something new.  All in all it was a really good story and well told.  It's just a one on one romance so it's a break from Cebelius' usual story, but he pulls it off.  Well done on that Cebelius.  I had some minor quibbles on things, so it's not up there with TAP in my favorites, but I don't regret reading it.

Comments:Not going to lie, I think this was better than book 2 and might actually be better than book 1.

Not really much to quibble about, this is a fun and highly entertaining book.  I can't really think of any instances of "ok get on with it".  Lots of funny bits, and nods to other authors.  Just go read it.

 Comments:

I loved book one, and book 2 was just as good.  Cebelius has somehow created a quartet of characters that you just can't help but love.

I wish I had half the ability for banter and witty repartee these four have.

Anyway, just go read it.  It's fun, and touching, all in one book.

Ok, so if you read MKS 1 you know that it’s the story of one man’s accidental heroism which lands him in a very bad situation on Celestine. I don’t even think “very bad” is sufficient to encompass the horror of his situation.  But that’s book 1.

In book 2, Abram finds himself in control of Svartheim and beset by threats.  He is empirically not a “good” person, but all the way through you have to kind of agree with most of his actions.  He goes out of his way to avoid unnecessary death, and work for the good of his people.  He has one moment of irrationality, which was completely justified, and commits an act which even he says he regrets later, but you have to kind of sympathize with his actions.

In the end, I found myself hoping there’s a way out for him.  All in all a good story, if not a completely happy one.

Title:  T.A.P.  Origins

Comments

TAP features an unusual protagonist in that he’s an orphan with two prosthetic legs and a rather unique special ability that he can “wake up” inanimate objects, as long as they have some kind of electronics.  Unusually, he uses his power sparingly for reasons that become apparent.

This is a very fun, pretty light-hearted book, especially compared to his other series.  I have to say I also enjoyed it the most out of his books.

Cebelius is best known for his Celestine Chronicles books, but this one was actually first written before those books and there are places in the story you can definitely tell it’s an early work.  It’s fairly standard “trapped in a game world” fare, but his characters are decent.  The POV jumps around a bit, which I’m not a fan of, but it wasn’t  enough for me to drop it. That might possibly be because I’ve read so many of his other books that I was willing to power through the rough spots in this one.  No idea if there will be a sequel, he has said he isn’t sure.
